Our story:

Music has been at the heart of Carolyn Gower's life for as long as she can remember. She began singing at the age of two, displaying a natural affinity for music from a very young age. Musical ability seemed to come effortlessly to her, and those around her often recognised her as a gifted child.

As a youngster, Carolyn frequently asked for a piano. To her surprise and delight, her wish came true one Christmas when her parents presented her with one. At the age of eight, she began learning the piano, and by the age of twelve she was composing music, demonstrating both talent and dedication.

Her passion for music continued to flourish. When she was eleven, her parents gave her a Spanish guitar, opening another avenue for musical expression. Around the same time, she taught herself to play the recorder. Inspired by the music she heard at her mother's church, Carolyn developed a fascination with composition and the creative process behind music. She began writing her own pieces and discovered a lifelong passion for composing.

By the age of fifteen, her enthusiasm for performing and songwriting led her to form an all-girls band called The Concords. The experience provided an important outlet for creativity and marked an early step in her development as both a musician and composer.

A major milestone in Carolyn's musical journey came at the age of twenty-five when she composed her first opera, ‘Thomas’. At the time, she was also studying for a degree through the Open University. Demonstrating remarkable commitment and determination, she completed the opera in just six weeks. Balancing academic study, family responsibilities, and creative ambitions required considerable discipline. As a wife and mother, Carolyn often rose before her husband and daughter each morning so that she could devote uninterrupted time to composing before the day began.

‘Thomas’ was written for the youth club Trinity Plus, it told the story of Jesus’s life through the eyes of the doubting disciple Thomas. Most people in the cast were aged 15 and had never sang or acted before. Their 4 performances in May 1974 in Holy Trinity Church Hounslow were a resounding success and excerpts of Thomas were filmed by the BBC for a programme called ‘Searching for the next Jesus Christ Superstar’.

Over the years, Carolyn has written 9 musicals for churches, schools and theatre groups, they have all been well received. Carolyn spent her working life in education as a music specialist, class teacher and head teacher, always directing the schools music. She was also director of the then 40 strong choir at St Matthews Church Yiewsley and was director of the Herald music group, that toured around the south of England with her productions. In retirement she has continued her compositions, and has a Master of Music degree in composing for the theatre. She has written many songs and anthems, and in 2025 completed the Windsor mass, written to celebrate the 4 churches in central Windsor becoming one parish.

Throughout her life, music has remained a constant source of inspiration and purpose. For more than twenty years, Carolyn has envisioned establishing a music company dedicated to promoting musical creativity and opportunity. Although the venture has yet to be fully realised, the vision behind it continues to drive her work and ambitions.

Carolyn's goals extend far beyond sharing her own compositions. She is passionate about helping aspiring musicians develop their talents and supporting innovative musical projects. She believes strongly in the power of music to educate, inspire, and connect people, regardless of background or geography. Through her work, she hopes not only to bring greater recognition to her own music but also to encourage collaboration, mentorship, and access to music education both in the United Kingdom and internationally.

From a young girl captivated by music and composition to an accomplished composer balancing family life, education, and creative achievement, Carolyn Gower's journey has been defined by perseverance, imagination, and a deep love of music. Her continuing mission through Diamond Jubilee Music is to create meaningful musical works, support emerging artists, and contribute to the growth of music education and creative opportunities for future generations.
