This anthem was a commison from the Browning Society, and celebrates the marriage of the poets Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning in St Marylebone Church on the 12th of September 1846. The soprano soloist sings Elizabeth Barrett’s beautiful poem ‘ How do I Love Thee’ followed by the baritone soloist singing Robert Brownings ‘ Grow Old Along With Me’. The melodies then interweave to symbolize the poets marriage.
